Manatee Day Trip
This will be a one day trip on the Homosassa River visiting our friends, the Manatees. Between Thanksgiving and Easter is the best time to snorkel with these cuties. The water temp in the springs is a constant 72 year round, it'll feel chilly at first but it is comfortable. After that they begin to leave the springs and head out to to the bay and coastal waters ( or not). Miss this one and you'll have to wait till next winter. (Not true, we'll be doing it again) In reality the manatees are in the river all year just in smaller numbers during the summer . Chances of a close encounter is best in the winter.
We'll be meeting at Homosassa Riverside Retreat (different location then last year), Fl. (directions will follow) by 10:00 A.M. to board our personal pontoon boat captained by non-other then Capt. Dale and head up the river to the springs. Want to carpool? Ken-do, just let me know, we'll be stopping along the way for breakfast. Lunch, we'll dock at one of the local riverside eateries . Even pay a visit to Monkey Island (yes it really is an island with only monkeys on it). You can expect to have up to 5 hours on the river. All in all, it's just a fun day on the river and making new friends. Planning to be back at the dock about 3:00 or 4ish. Don't forget your camera !
Bring your own gear for snorkeling, wet suite if you need one, towel, something to drink and a snack to share would be nice.
Cost is only $40.00 per person and must be paid in advance.
